eSOL was pleased to hold the eSOL Technology Forum 2024 on September 27th in Tokyo, Japan. A big thank you to our guest speakers, and to everyone who joined us on this occasion.
This year's theme, "The New Software-First Approach for Enabling SDA Transformation”, brought exciting insights into the latest software technologies, including operating systems designed to harness cutting-edge innovations like chiplets.
We also presented the Full Stack Engineering for SDx approach, sharing real-world case studies that highlight its crucial role in driving competitiveness and innovation in software-defined systems (SDx). In addition to our presentation, guest speakers from DENSO CORPORATION, OLYMPUS CORPORATION, and Woven by Toyota, Inc. discussed their companies' efforts on this theme.
Presentations
The Software First Approach for Enabling SDA Transformation Masaki Gondo, CTO and Senior Executive VP/Head of Software Division, eSOL |
Learn more In recent years, the software-defined approach, represented by SDV in the automotive industry, has been attracting attention, and although SDA is the foundation of this approach, it is unclear how to realize it. Similarly, the term “software first” is often misunderstood to mean that software “only” is important. This presentation discussed software-first approaches to SDA, such as domain modeling, and software technologies, including operating systems, to take advantage of the latest computer technologies, such as chiplets. |
Software Defined Vehicle: How Should the Automotive Industry Believe in the “Power of Software”? Yoshifumi Kato, Senior Executive Officer, CTO, DENSO CORPORATION |
Learn more The automotive industry is trying to create new value through SDV. However, there is still much to consider when believing in and using the “power of software.” This presentation discussed the issues and considerations regarding new value in vehicles and mobility and how software is involved in its realization. |
Approaches to SDx in the Medical Field Tatsuhiro Kodama, Vice President, Advanced Software Technology Research Global, OLYMPUS CORPORATION |
Learn more In recent years, many leading companies, especially in the automotive industry, have accelerated their efforts to adopt software-defined approaches. In the medical industry, patient safety is the top priority, and patient focus is also one of the core values of Olympus. Naturally, product development that complies with the strict medical laws and regulations of each country is also required. In this presentation, Olympus's approach to SDx was discussed, taking into account the various issues facing the medical industry. |
Full Stack Engineering Required for SDx Akihiko Tsukuda, Executive Officer, Software Engineering, eSOL |
Learn more It is inevitable to introduce some kind of platform for the development of software-defined systems (SDx). However, simply introducing an existing platform and building an application does not make SDx a source of competitiveness, and eventually the capability of the system may be taken over by others. eSOL believes that full stack engineering is essential to solving this problem. This presentation explored what full stack engineering is and why it is indispensable using our own case studies. |
Hardware and Software: Separation or Deeper Integration? JF Bastien, Arene Distinguished Engineer, Woven by Toyota |
Learn more The separation of hardware and software is crucial for advancing Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), allowing vehicle software to define various hardware aspects effectively. However unintuitive it might be, achieving true SDV also requires deeper integration between hardware, software, operating systems, and toolchains. This deeper integration improves overall quality while reducing costs and time to market. This talk explored strategies for separating hardware and software while simultaneously fostering deeper integration to realize the full potential of SDVs. |
New Procurement Models and Challenges for In-Vehicle Software Tomoyuki Uda, Vice President and Deputy General Manager of Software Business Management, eSOL |
Learn more While the sophistication of vehicle electronics has been advancing under the keyword “CASE,” the automotive industry is now at a further turning point with the advent of SDV. In particular, the division of labor between OEMs and suppliers is shifting toward system integration, which requires more cooperation than ever before on the development front. This presentation focused on the new procurement model based on the separation of hardware and software and explained various issues in software development. |
Many attendees visited our demo booths during the breaks and networking sessions, exchanging information and ideas.
